6 Wonderful Ways to Use Lavender

I LOVE lavender. Maybe it's because of nostalgia, heartwarming memories of collecting it with my sister to make lavender pillows? Or maybe it's because of the calming effects I've felt whilst using it over the years.

Harvest Lavender for different uses

Whatever the reason, I'm always looking for new ways to incorporate it in my life. So besides brushing past every lavender bush I pass to enjoy the aroma, here are 6 Wonderful Ways to Use Lavender:

1. Make scented bags

Lavender has been used as a sleep aid for many years. An easy way to make use of this is to sew a little cotton bag, fill it with dried lavender and pop it under your pillow. You can also use a lavender bag to scent your clothes by hanging it in your wardrobe or popping into your drawer or by putting into your tumble drier.

Hang lavender to dry and scent the room

2. Hang in bunches to scent rooms

Possibly one of the oldest (and easiest!) lavender traditions is to harvest a bunch of lavender, tie it with string and hang it in a room. This is great if you want to dry the lavender out for other uses or if just if you want to freshen a room!

3. Use in baking

Did you know lavender is edible and can be used in making biscuits and cakes? It's really yummy and adds a subtle fragrant taste. Not to mention the medicinal benefits. It contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties so a win-win!

4. Make a sleepy tea

If you have trouble sleeping, you can make a lovely lavender tea. Mixed with some other herbs such as chamomile and a teaspoon of local honey may just help you drift off into a peaceful slumber.

Make a homemade household cleaning spray from lavender and white vinegar

5. Infuse in vinegar to make a household cleaner

Do you make your own household cleaners? Infusing lavender in white vinegar for a couple of weeks and diluting with water makes a wonderfully scented cleaning liquid. It also enhances the cleaning power of vinegar as lavender is antibacterial.

6. Use to make bath salts

You can also use lavender to make bath salts or soap for a super relaxing bath. A jar of bath salts also makes a lovely gift.
